President Buhari Being Welcomed Back by Chief of Staff

The President’s Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammed Bello, and the President’s National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno were among those at the airport to greet him.

Other service chiefs present included the acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufa’i, the Director-General of the State Security Services, Yusuf Bichi, and other presidential aides.

After a short welcome ceremony at the airport, President Buhari boarded a presidential helicopter that took him to the Presidential Villa.

President Buhari left Abuja on March 30 for a regular medical check-up in London, United Kingdom.

Many Nigerians have chastised the president for traveling for medical treatment at a time when resident doctors in the country were preparing for a nationwide strike. The doctors arrived.

While Mr Buhari was in the air on March 30, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) slammed him, claiming that his medical trip abroad was a direct indictment of his presidency for failing to fix the country’s healthcare system.

The PDP said in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, that it was concerning that under Mr Buhari, even the highly regarded State House Clinic had become so decrepit that it could no longer provide medical check-ups for the president.
